Balance Assessment

We assess the main three sensory feedback systems for balance (i.e. proprioception, vision, vestibular function) relative to one another using gold-standard force plate technology.

Functional Vision

This test measures critical dynamic vision skills such as eye movement and coordination. A standard eye exam only checks your eyes’ physical health and ability to focus on stationary objects.

Video Oculography

Infrared video goggles help to make the examination and diagnosis of a dizzy patient more accurate by allowing our doctors to see eye movements that are often suppressed in normal light.

Balance Assessment

The BTracks Balance Tracking System enables our doctors to:

Accurate and reliable results

Quick and easy to administer (~2 min)

Objective measure of postural sway

Twice as effective as the BESS protocol

Percentile ranking categorized by age/sex

Normative data from over 10,000 athletes

The BTrackS Balance System is utilized by our doctors as an all-in-one solution to assess and train balance with gold-standard force plate technology. The protocols for assessment include:

The BTrackS Balance Test (BBT) is a general balance assessment providing detailed postural sway analysis. After each test, the centimeters of postural sway are calculated and compared to over 20,000 norms to calculate percentile rankings. In addition, a fall risk assessment of Low, Moderate or High is provided with each test result.

The Clinical Test of Sensory Integration and Balance is used to assess how the main three sensory feedback systems for balance (i.e. proprioception, vision, vestibular) function relative to one another. Integrated normative data provides percentile rankings for each patient.

This test measures postural sway with your head in 11 different positions. The different positions expose specific vestibular configurations and performance on each trial can be interpreted and utilized for functional rehabilitation.

This test is used to measure the functional base of support using a biofeedback test. Patients stand with feet flat on the plate and lean as far as possible in all directions. The total area and the area in each quadrant of the plate is calculated in real time.

We are able to accurately determine weight distribution percentages in the left/right and front/back directions as well as the location of body center of pressure as it relates to global postural alignment.

Functional Vision

RightEye Technology enables our doctors to:

  • Pinpoint vision and brain health issues
  • Identify the root cause of reading problems
  • Improve athletic performance

In just 5 minutes, this proven, patented technology measures visual skills in ways that a standard eye exam cannot — enabling us to diagnose and correct underlying vision issues that affect our patients’ quality of life.

What Is Functional Vision Testing?

Your two eyes and brain must work together to navigate the world. It’s this connection that makes up your functional vision. A standard eye exam, however, only checks your eyes’ physical health and ability to focus on stationary objects — it doesn’t measure critical dynamic vision skills such as eye movement and coordination.

Signs that you may have a functional vision problem include:

  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Rereading or skipping lines of print
  • Short attention span
  • Poor reading comprehension
  • Poor coordination or balance
  • Slow completion of work
  • Previous brain trauma (concussions, strokes)
  • Loss of interest in reading
  • Frequent headaches

RightEye Functional Vision Testing is a 5-minute, non-invasive test performed at our offices that could diagnose a vision issue and set you on a path to improvement.

Video Oculography

Infrared Video Goggles (Video Oculography) enables our doctors to:

Infrared video goggles help to make the examination and diagnosis of a dizzy patient more accurate by allowing our doctors to see eye movements that are often suppressed in normal light. The patient wearing the goggles cannot see anything, only darkness.

This is how we remove any visual fixation to allow the eyes to move freely. The two infrared cameras inside the goggles record each eye independently and send a video feed straight to a laptop for our doctors to watch your eyes in real time.

“Clinicians who use infrared video goggles have been shown to visualize 100% of abnormal eye movements that provide critical information toward accurate diagnosis and treatment of vestibular patients, as compared to 33% of abnormal eye movements visualized with traditional thickened lens Frenzel glasses. (Baba et al., 2004).”
